Why this applies to Galantamine

Galantamine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Ayahuasca interacts with.

Theoretically, ayahuasca might increase plasma concentrations of CYP2D6 substrates.
Ayahuasca contains beta-carboline alkaloids, including harmine and harmaline. In vitro research suggests that the beta-carboline alkaloids might inhibit CYP2D6 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist of it: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear galantamine. The beta-carboline compounds in ayahuasca (harmine and harmaline) appear to slow that enzyme down, at least in lab tests. If that happens in a person, galantamine could build up a bit more than usual, which may mean stronger effects and more side effects like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, a slow heartbeat, or stomach cramping.

That said, this is theoretical. It's only been seen in test-tube studies, not in real people, so we can't say how big the effect would be. Beyond all this, ayahuasca is a potent MAOI brew with serious risks of its own. Please don't combine these without first talking to your doctor or pharmacist.

Here's the gist for your galantamine: your body partly relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear this medicine. What Is Galantamine Used For?

Brand names: Reminyl, Razadyne

Galantamine — available as extended-release capsules, tablets, and an oral solution — is used to treat mild to moderate dementia caused by Alzheimer's disease. All supported formulations share this indication.

It does not cure or slow the underlying disease, but it can help support cognitive function in people with early to moderate-stage Alzheimer's. Its benefits may lessen as the disease progresses and more brain cells are lost.
