Ayahuasca + Prednisolone
Prednisolone brand names: Prednisolone, Sterane, Delta Cortef, Cortalone, Pred Forte, and others.
Ayahuasca has a moderate interaction with Prednisolone. Theoretically, ayahuasca might increase plasma concentrations of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Prednisolone
Prednisolone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Ayahuasca interacts with.
Ayahuasca contains beta-carboline alkaloids. In vitro research suggests that beta-carboline alkaloids competitively inhibit CYP3A4 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the basic idea with these two together. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear prednisolone from your body. Ayahuasca contains beta-carboline compounds that, in lab testing, can slow that same enzyme down. If that happens in a person, prednisolone could clear more slowly and build up a bit higher than usual.
More prednisolone hanging around can mean stronger steroid effects, things like trouble sleeping, mood swings, higher blood sugar, fluid retention, or stomach upset. I want to be honest though: this is theoretical, based only on test-tube work, and has not been shown in actual people. On top of that, ayahuasca carries its own serious risks. Please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining anything.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Prednisolone page
“Prednisolone quiets inflammation and dampens the immune system, and its list of 202 interacting supplement and herbal ingredients, four of them rated major, deserves a careful read rather than a shrug. Grapefruit can push prednisolone levels up by blocking its breakdown, St.”

About Ayahuasca
What is Ayahuasca?
- Spiritual and ceremonial rituals
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Substance use disorders
- Personal or emotional insight
Ayahuasca is a powerful psychoactive brew that combines a DMT-containing plant with a vine that allows the DMT to take effect, causing intense hallucinations. It is illegal in many places, can trigger dangerous reactions, and is not recommended for self-use; talk to a doctor or pharmacist before considering it.
About Prednisolone
What Is Prednisolone Used For?
Brand names: Prednisolone, Sterane, Delta Cortef, Cortalone, Pred Forte, Solupred
Prednisolone is prescribed for many different conditions where inflammation or an overactive immune system is causing harm. These range from severe allergic reactions and asthma to certain skin diseases, blood disorders, eye problems, and some cancers.
It is also used to support the body when the adrenal glands aren't making enough of their own steroids, and to manage flares of conditions like ulcerative colitis, multiple sclerosis, and nephrotic syndrome (a kidney condition causing protein loss in the urine).

Natural Medicines records Prednisolone as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Ayahuasca — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
