Your birth control pill (Microgynon, Logynon) contains ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel. The estrogen part is partly handled by a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. In test-tube studies, compounds from Baikal skullcap appear to slow that enzyme down a bit. In theory, that could let a little more estrogen build up in your system, which might nudge up estrogen-type side effects like nausea, breast tenderness, headaches, or bloating.

Here's the honest part: this comes only from lab work, not from real people, so we don't actually know if it happens in the body. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but since this pill is important for preventing pregnancy, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding the supplement so they can keep an eye on things for you.

You're taking a combined birth control pill that mixes an estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) with a progestin (levonorgestrel). The concern with Baikal skullcap is that, in lab dishes, some of its plant compounds seem to act a little like estrogen and may compete at the same estrogen receptors your pill works on. In theory, large amounts could slightly nudge how your hormones behave.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is based only on test-tube and animal studies, not real people, so it's very much a maybe. There's no solid sign it would weaken your pregnancy protection. Still, since this is a daily hormone you rely on, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding concentrated skullcap supplements.

Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might increase levels of drugs transported by P-glycoprotein.
In vitro and animal research suggests that baicalein, oroxylin A, and wogonin, constituents of Baikal skullcap, can inhibit P-glycoprotein. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the short version: your birth control pill (the ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel combo in Logynon or Microgynon) gets shuttled around the body partly by a transporter called P-glycoprotein. In test-tube and animal studies, some compounds in Baikal skullcap (baicalein and wogonin) seem to slow that transporter down. If that happened in people, it could nudge the hormone levels in your blood a little higher, which in theory might mean slightly more of the usual estrogen-type effects like nausea, breast tenderness, or spotting.

But honestly, I wouldn't lose sleep over this one. This is rated minor, and it has only been seen in lab and animal work, never confirmed in actual humans. Still, since steady hormone levels matter for reliable contraception, it's worth a quick mention to your pharmacist or doctor before you start the herb.
