In vitro evidence suggests that constituents of Baikal skullcap inhibit the activity of CYP1A2. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Annovera is your vaginal ring that releases two hormones, segesterone and ethinyl estradiol, to prevent pregnancy. The estrogen part is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. In test-tube studies, compounds in Baikal skullcap (like baicalin and baicalein) seem to slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happened in people, your estrogen levels could drift a little higher, which can mean more estrogen-type side effects like nausea, breast tenderness, headaches, bloating, or spotting.

The important thing to know is this is only a lab finding. It has not been shown to happen in real people, so I would not lose sleep over it. Still, since this is a birth control hormone, it is worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding the herb.

Annovera is a vaginal ring that releases two hormones, segesterone (a progestin) and ethinyl estradiol (an estrogen), to prevent pregnancy. The concern here is pretty mild and mostly theoretical. In lab dishes, Baikal skullcap seems to have some weak estrogen-like activity, and researchers wonder if large amounts could compete at estrogen receptors and slightly nudge how your body responds to the estrogen in your ring.

To be clear, this is based only on test-tube studies, not on real people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. There's no solid sign it would cause breakthrough bleeding or weaken your birth control. Still, since reliable contraception matters, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding concentrated skullcap supplements.

Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might increase levels of drugs transported by P-glycoprotein.
In vitro and animal research suggests that baicalein, oroxylin A, and wogonin, constituents of Baikal skullcap, can inhibit P-glycoprotein. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist with Annovera (the vaginal ring that releases segesterone and ethinyl estradiol) and Baikal skullcap. This herb contains plant compounds that, in test tube and animal studies, may block a transporter called P-glycoprotein. That transporter helps move certain drugs around and out of the body. In theory, slowing it could let a bit more hormone stay in your system, which might mean more of the usual side effects like nausea, breast tenderness, headaches, or spotting.

I want to be honest though: this has only been seen in lab and animal research, never confirmed in real people, and it's rated a minor concern. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, before adding skullcap, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor.
