Banaba + Cinoxacin
Cinoxacin brand name: Cinobac.
Banaba has a moderate interaction with Cinoxacin. Theoretically, concomitant use of banaba with substrates of OATP might reduce the bioavailability of the OATP substrate.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ORGANIC ANION-TRANSPORTING POLYPEPTIDE SUBSTRATES (OATP)
Why this applies to Cinoxacin
Cinoxacin falls under ORGANIC ANION-TRANSPORTING POLYPEPTIDE SUBSTRATES (OATP) — the group Banaba interacts with.
In vitro research shows that banaba inhibits OATP, particularly OATP2B1. OATPs are expressed in the small intestine and liver and are responsible for the absorption of drugs and other compounds.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Cinoxacin is an older antibiotic from the quinolone family, used mainly for urinary tract infections. Here's the idea behind this interaction: your gut and liver use little 'doorways' called OATP transporters to help absorb certain drugs. Lab studies hint that banaba may block one of these doorways (OATP2B1). If that happens, your body might absorb a bit less of the cinoxacin, which in theory could leave you with lower drug levels and a weaker punch against the infection.
I want to be honest about how soft this is. It comes only from test-tube research, not from people taking both, so it may not matter in real life. Still, an underdosed antibiotic is something we want to avoid. Before adding banaba, check with your pharmacist or doctor so your infection gets fully treated.

Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

About Banaba
What is Banaba?
- Blood sugar support
- Type 2 diabetes
- Weight management
- High blood pressure
- Cholesterol support
Banaba is a leaf extract most often used to help support healthy blood sugar, and small early studies suggest its active compound corosolic acid may modestly lower glucose. The overall evidence is limited and short-term, so it should not replace prescribed diabetes care. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before trying it, especially if you take blood sugar medicine.
