Theoretically, betony might have additive effects with blood pressure lowering drugs due to hypotensive activity of the glycosides found in betony. It might also interfere with the activity of pressor drugs. Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), Amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Here's the gist with Quinapril and betony. Quinapril already relaxes your blood vessels to bring your blood pressure down. Betony contains plant compounds (glycosides) that may have a mild blood-pressure-lowering effect of their own. Put them together and the worry is simply that they could nudge your pressure a little too low.

If that happened, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or off-balance, especially when standing up quickly. Keep in mind this is a theoretical concern based on how betony works, not from solid human studies, so for most people it's a minor, watch-and-see issue. Still, if you take quinapril and want to try betony, check with your pharmacist or doctor first, and keep an eye on your readings at home.

What Is Quinapril Used For?

Brand names: Accupril, Accupro

Quinapril tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack. Quinapril may be used alone or combined with a thiazide diuretic (water pill) when one medication isn't enough.

Quinapril tablets are also used in the management of heart failure as an add-on therapy alongside other standard treatments such as diuretics and/or digitalis.
