Theoretically, betony might have additive effects with blood pressure lowering drugs due to hypotensive activity of the glycosides found in betony. It might also interfere with the activity of pressor drugs. Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), Amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Here's the basic idea with betony and acebutolol (Sectral). Acebutolol is a beta blocker that lowers your blood pressure and slows your heart rate. Betony contains plant compounds that may have a mild blood-pressure-lowering effect of their own. So in theory, taking the two together could push your blood pressure down a little more than expected, leaving you feeling dizzy, lightheaded, unusually tired, or faint, especially when you stand up quickly.

I want to be straight with you: this is a theoretical concern based on how betony might act, not on solid human studies, so it may not amount to much. Still, since acebutolol is treating something important, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding betony, and keep an eye on how you feel.

What Is Acebutolol Used For?

Acebutolol Hydrochloride capsules are used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. They can be used on their own or alongside other blood pressure medications, particularly thiazide-type diuretics.

They are also used to treat ventricular premature beats — extra, out-of-rhythm heartbeats that originate in the lower chambers of the heart. Acebutolol reduces how often these abnormal beats occur, including complex patterns that can be more concerning.
