Cyclothiazide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Betony interacts with.

Theoretically, betony might have additive effects with blood pressure lowering drugs due to hypotensive activity of the glycosides found in betony. It might also interfere with the activity of pressor drugs. Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), Amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Cyclothiazide is a thiazide-type water pill that lowers blood pressure by helping your body get rid of extra salt and fluid. Betony contains plant compounds (glycosides) that may, on their own, nudge blood pressure down a bit too. So in theory, pairing them could add up and drop your pressure lower than expected.

If that happened, you might feel lightheaded, dizzy, tired, or shaky when you stand up quickly. I want to be clear, though: this concern is theoretical, based on how betony might behave rather than solid human studies. Cyclothiazide is not activated by an enzyme betony affects, so this is about overlapping blood-pressure effects, not changed drug levels. Before combining them, check with your pharmacist or doctor, and let them know if you feel faint.
