Ammonium Chloride falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Betony interacts with.

Theoretically, betony might have additive effects with blood pressure lowering drugs due to hypotensive activity of the glycosides found in betony. It might also interfere with the activity of pressor drugs. Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), Amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Here's an honest heads-up: the interaction we have on file groups this drug with blood pressure medicines, but ammonium chloride isn't really a blood pressure drug. It's typically used as a urinary acidifier or to correct certain metabolic imbalances, and sometimes as an expectorant. So the classic concern (betony's mild blood-pressure-lowering compounds adding to a hypertension drug) doesn't map neatly onto this particular medicine.

The good news is that this whole interaction is theoretical, based on pharmacology rather than real human studies, so there's no strong reason for alarm. Still, because betony's effects in people aren't well studied, I'd run it past your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two, especially so they can confirm why you're taking ammonium chloride.
