It might also interfere with the activity of pressor drugs. Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), Amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Here's the simple version: Betony may have a mild blood-pressure-lowering effect of its own, thanks to certain plant compounds it contains. Since your valsartan (Diovan) is already working to relax your blood vessels and bring your numbers down, pairing the two could, in theory, push your pressure a little lower than expected.

If that happened, you might feel dizzy or lightheaded, especially when standing up quickly, or notice more tiredness than usual. I'll be honest with you though, this caution is based on how betony is thought to behave, not on solid human studies, so it's far from certain. Valsartan isn't a prodrug, so this is about adding up effects, not changing how the drug is activated. Just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before combining them, and keep an eye on your readings.

What Is Valsartan Used For?

Brand names: Diovan, Prexxartan

Valsartan is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children, heart failure in adults, and to lower the risk of cardiovascular death in adults who have had a heart attack and have reduced heart function. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack.

Diovan (valsartan) tablets are approved to treat high blood pressure in children as young as 1 year old. Valsartan tablets (generic) are approved for children 6 years and older. Valsartan oral solution is specifically indicated for patients with heart failure or post-heart attack left ventricular dysfunction who are unable to swallow tablets.
