ESTROGENS
Why this applies to Conjugated Estrogens, Meprobamate
Conjugated Estrogens, Meprobamate falls under ESTROGENS — the group Black Tea interacts with.
Black tea contains caffeine. Estrogen inhibits caffeine metabolism.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's a small thing worth knowing if you're on PMB (which combines conjugated estrogens with meprobamate) and you enjoy black tea. The estrogen part can slow down how fast your body clears caffeine. So that caffeine from your tea tends to hang around longer and hit a little harder than it normally would.
In real life, that might mean you feel more jittery, notice a racing or pounding heart, have trouble sleeping, or feel restless or anxious. Keep in mind PMB already contains meprobamate, a calming, sedative-type ingredient, so mixing in extra stimulation from caffeine works against that. This is a theoretical concern based on limited evidence, and a cup or two is usually fine for most people. If you drink a lot of tea or feel wired, chat with your pharmacist or doctor.
