Sacituzumab Govitecan-Hziy falls under GLUCURONIDATED DRUGS — the group Breadfruit interacts with.

Breadfruit might increase the levels of drugs metabolized by uridine diphosphoglucuronosyl transferase (UGT). So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, in vitro evidence shows that the breadfruit constituent artocarpin inhibits UGT. Theoretically, this could decrease the clearance and increase levels of glucuronidated drugs. Some drugs that are metabolized through glucuronide conjugation include acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) and oxazepam (Serax), haloperidol (Haldol), lamotrigine (Lamictal), morphine (MS Contin, Roxanol), zidovudine (AZT, Retrovir), and others.

Here's the connection with Trodelvy. After it delivers its chemo payload (a drug called SN-38), your body clears that payload partly by attaching a sugar molecule to it, a process run by an enzyme called UGT. Compounds in breadfruit leaves have, in a lab dish only, slowed that same enzyme. In theory, blocking it could let SN-38 linger longer and turn up Trodelvy's typical side effects, like low blood counts, diarrhea, nausea, and fatigue.

The honest part: this has never been seen in a real person. It's based on test-tube data, so I wouldn't lose sleep over eating breadfruit as a food. Concentrated leaf teas or extracts are the bigger question mark. Since you're on cancer treatment, please run any breadfruit supplements by your oncology team first.

What Is Sacituzumab govitecan-hziy Injection Used For?

Brand name: Trodelvy

  • Sacituzumab govitecan-hziy is used to treat ertain types of breast cancer in adults that has spread to other parts of the body or cannot be removed by surgery and who have already been treated with at least two other chemotherapy medications. Sacituzumab govitecan-hziy is also used to treat certain types of urothelial cancer (cancer of the lining of the bladder and other parts of the urinary tract) in adults that has spread to other parts of the body or cannot be removed by surgery and who have already been treated with at least two other chemotherapy medications. Sacituzumab govitecan-hziy is in a class of medications called antibody-drug conjugates. It works by killing cancer cells.
