These two interact in 3 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 3 Interactions?
Brussels Sprout interacts with whole categories of medication. Acetaminophen, Hydrocodone falls into 3 of those categories, so it can interact with Brussels Sprout in 3 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
1 of 3Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Hydrocodone
Acetaminophen, Hydrocodone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Brussels Sprout interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the honest version: the worry on file is that Brussels sprouts may speed up an enzyme called CYP1A2, which could clear certain medications a little faster. But this is based only on lab and animal studies, and your hydrocodone is mainly handled by different enzymes (CYP3A4 and CYP2D6), not CYP1A2. The acetaminophen piece isn't a meaningful concern here either. So this particular interaction is largely theoretical and not a strong match for Vicodin or Norco.
In real life, eating Brussels sprouts as food is very unlikely to change how your pain relief works or cause problems. If you ever notice your medication feeling weaker, or you're using concentrated cruciferous supplements, just check in with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

GLUCURONIDATED DRUGS
2 of 3Acetaminophen, Hydrocodone also falls under GLUCURONIDATED DRUGS.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the quick version: your body clears the acetaminophen part of Vicodin or Norco partly through a process called glucuronidation, basically tagging it so it can be flushed out. Studies suggest that diets heavy in Brussels sprouts and cabbage can nudge that clearance to run a little faster. In theory, that could mean slightly lower acetaminophen levels, so the pain-relieving and fever-reducing punch might be a touch weaker.
In real life, this is pretty minor. Eating Brussels sprouts with dinner is unlikely to make a noticeable difference in how your medication works, and the hydrocodone side isn't really affected here. I wouldn't lose sleep over it. If you ever feel your pain isn't controlled the way it should be, that's worth a chat with your pharmacist or doctor rather than adjusting anything yourself.

ACETAMINOPHEN (Tylenol, others)
3 of 3Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the gist for your Norco or Vicodin (which pairs hydrocodone with acetaminophen, the Tylenol part): a diet heavy in Brussels sprouts and cabbage seems to rev up how your body clears acetaminophen, by speeding up a process called glucuronidation. In one clinical study, eating these veggies daily dropped acetaminophen levels by around 16%. So the practical concern is the opposite of buildup, your body may flush the acetaminophen out a bit faster, which could make that piece feel slightly less effective for pain or fever.
This is a modest effect, and the hydrocodone portion isn't really involved. Enjoying Brussels sprouts as food is perfectly fine. If you ever feel your pain relief isn't holding, talk with your pharmacist or doctor rather than changing anything on your own.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Acetaminophen, Hydrocodone page
“Someone taking hydrocodone with acetaminophen (Vicodin, Norco) for post-surgical or dental pain often reaches for a sleep aid, kava, or a glass of wine at night, and that is exactly where the risk sits. This combination calls for genuine vigilance.”

About Brussels Sprout
What is Brussels Sprout?
- General nutrition and fiber
- Antioxidant support
- Digestive health
- Heart health support
- Cancer-prevention interest
Brussels sprouts are a nutritious cruciferous vegetable rich in fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, and plant compounds called glucosinolates. Eating them as part of a balanced diet is healthy and safe for most people, but supplement-style claims (like preventing cancer) are not well proven. If you take blood thinners or have thyroid concerns, talk with your pharmacist or doctor about your intake.
