Caffeine + Chlorpromazine
Chlorpromazine brand names: Thorazine, Thorazine Spansules.
Caffeine has a minor interaction with Chlorpromazine. Theoretically, phenothiazines might increase the levels and adverse effects of caffeine.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
PHENOTHIAZINES
Why this applies to Chlorpromazine
Chlorpromazine falls under PHENOTHIAZINES — the group Caffeine interacts with.
Phenothiazines, including perazine, chlorpromazine, levomepromazine, and thioridazine, can reduce the metabolism of caffeine by inhibiting cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2).
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist of this one: it's really about the caffeine side, not the chlorpromazine. Chlorpromazine can put the brakes on a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, which is one of the main ways your body clears caffeine. So while you're taking chlorpromazine, that morning coffee or energy drink may stick around longer and hit a little harder than usual. You might notice more jitteriness, a racing or pounding heart, trouble sleeping, or feeling on edge.
Good news: this is rated minor and is based only on lab data, so it's more of a theoretical heads-up than a real worry for most people. If you drink a lot of caffeine and feel wired or anxious, it's worth chatting with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

About Caffeine
What is Caffeine?
- Mental alertness and reducing fatigue
- Improving athletic performance
- Headache and migraine relief
- Boosting focus and concentration
- Weight loss aid
Caffeine is a natural stimulant found in coffee, tea, and many other plants and products. In moderate amounts it can boost alertness and reduce tiredness for most healthy adults, but too much can cause jitteriness, a racing heart, and sleep problems. Pregnant women and people with heart conditions or anxiety should be especially careful and check with a doctor or pharmacist.
About Chlorpromazine
What Is Chlorpromazine Used For?
Brand names: Thorazine, Thorazine Spansules
Chlorpromazine is used to manage psychotic disorders and treat schizophrenia. It also controls the manic type of manic-depressive illness, nausea and vomiting, and intractable (stubborn) hiccups.
It is also used for restlessness and apprehension before surgery, acute intermittent porphyria, and as an add-on in tetanus. It treats severe behavioral problems in children 1 to 12 years old and short-term hyperactivity with conduct problems. The oral products (concentrate and tablets) also list the general “management of manifestations of psychotic disorders.” The injection lists the other uses above.

Chlorpromazine Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Chlorpromazine as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Caffeine — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
