Omeprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) INHIBITORS — the group Caffeine interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use might increase the levels and adverse effects of caffeine.
Caffeine is metabolized by CYP1A2. Theoretically, drugs that inhibit CYP1A2 may decrease the rate of caffeine clearance and increase caffeine levels.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with these two together: it's the caffeine that may be affected, not your omeprazole. Omeprazole can mildly block an enzyme called CYP1A2, which is the same one your body uses to clear caffeine. When that enzyme is slowed down, caffeine can stick around a little longer, so your usual coffee or energy drink might hit a bit harder than expected.

In real life that could mean more jitters, a faster or pounding heartbeat, or trouble sleeping. But honestly, this is a minor, theory-based interaction drawn from lab studies, not strong human data, so most people do fine. If you notice you feel more wired than usual, just ease back on the caffeine and mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

About Omeprazole

What Is Omeprazole Used For?

Brand names: Prilosec, Zegerid, Losec

Omeprazole is used to treat a range of conditions where stomach acid causes problems. These include heartburn and acid reflux (GERD), erosive esophagitis (damage to the esophagus from acid), and stomach or duodenal ulcers. It can also be used alongside antibiotics to help get rid of an H. pylori infection — a bacteria that causes ulcers.

In more serious cases, omeprazole is used to manage conditions where the stomach produces far too much acid, such as pathologic hypersecretory conditions (rare medical disorders that cause extreme acid overproduction). It is approved for adults and children one year of age and older for GERD and erosive esophagitis.
