Here's the simple version: diethylpropion (Tenuate) is itself a stimulant that curbs your appetite, and caffeine is a stimulant too. So you're really stacking two pep-ups on top of each other. This isn't a case of caffeine slowing down how your body clears the drug. Instead, their effects just add together, which can push your nervous system into overdrive.

What that looks like in real life: a faster or pounding heartbeat, feeling jittery or restless, trouble sleeping, a rise in blood pressure, and more anxiety. This is based mostly on expert opinion rather than hard studies, so it's not a guarantee. A single morning coffee is usually milder than several energy drinks or caffeine pills. Still, if you notice your heart racing or you can't sleep, mention it to your doctor or pharmacist before changing anything.

What Is Diethylpropion Used For?

Brand names: Radtue, Tenuate, Durad, Tenuate Dosepan

Diethylpropion is used to help manage exogenous obesity (excess body weight from outside factors like diet) in adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher who haven't lost enough weight through diet and exercise alone. It is meant to be used for only a few weeks as part of a calorie-restricted diet plan.

All available tablet products — both the immediate-release tablets and the extended-release tablets — are approved for this purpose. Each is approved for use as a single medication only; combining diethylpropion with any other weight-loss drug is not allowed.
