Here's the simple version: butorphanol (Stadol) is an opioid pain reliever that already slows down your brain a bit. It can make you drowsy, foggy, dizzy, or slow your breathing. The dream herb, Calea zacatechichi, seems to have its own mild calming effect on the brain. So if you use both, the worry is that those sleepy effects could stack up and leave you more sedated than you'd expect.

I'll be honest with you, this is a theoretical concern based on how the herb behaves, not on solid studies in people taking it with this drug, and it's rated as minor. Butorphanol isn't a prodrug, so the herb isn't changing how it's activated. Still, please mention the herb to your pharmacist or doctor, especially around surgery or labor when butorphanol is often given.

About Butorphanol Injection

What Is Butorphanol Injection Used For?

Brand name: Stadol

Butorphanol Tartrate Injection is used to manage pain severe enough to require an opioid when other treatments are not adequate. It is also used as a preoperative or pre-anesthetic medication and as a supplement to balanced anesthesia during surgical procedures.

Butorphanol Tartrate Injection is also indicated for relief of pain during labor in patients at full term in early labor. Because of serious risks including addiction, misuse, and overdose, it is reserved for situations where alternative treatments are ineffective or not tolerated.
