Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the short version: Xigduo XR combines dapagliflozin (which helps your kidneys flush out extra sugar) and metformin (which lowers how much sugar your liver makes). Both already work to bring your blood sugar down. In some animal studies, the dream herb Calea zacatechichi also seemed to lower blood sugar a bit. So the worry is simply an additive effect: taking them together could, in theory, push your numbers a little too low.

I want to be honest, though. This concern comes only from animal research, not solid human studies, so it's mostly theoretical and rated as minor. Still, if you take this herb, keep an eye out for shakiness, sweating, dizziness, or confusion, and check your sugar if you feel off. It's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing the two.
