Here's the simple version: Felbamate already works by calming down overactive signaling in the brain, and that can leave some people feeling drowsy, dizzy, or sluggish. The dream herb, Calea zacatechichi, has shown its own mild calming or sedative effect in animals and a few human reports. So in theory, pairing the two could stack that sleepiness and make you feel more tired, foggy, or unsteady than usual.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. This is a theoretical concern based on how each acts, not something proven to cause problems together, and it's rated minor. Still, since you don't want anything dulling your alertness while controlling seizures, it's worth running it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Calea zacatechichi, often called 'dream herb,' is a Mexican plant traditionally used to encourage vivid dreams and to treat digestive complaints and fever. Human research is very limited, so its benefits are not well proven, and its safety has not been carefully studied. It tastes very bitter, can cause nausea, and should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

About Felbamate

What Is Felbamate Used For?

Brand name: Felbatol

Felbamate is not a first-line seizure medication. It is used only when a person's epilepsy has not responded well enough to other treatments and the seizures are severe enough that the serious risks of this drug are considered acceptable.

In adults, felbamate can be used alone or alongside other antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) to treat partial seizures (seizures that start in one part of the brain), with or without spreading to become a full seizure. In children, felbamate is used as an add-on treatment for both partial and generalized seizures linked to Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a severe form of childhood epilepsy. Felbatol is specifically labeled for these uses in both adults and children.
