Amlodipine Besylate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Cannabidiol (cbd) interacts with.

Cannabidiol may increase levels of drugs that are metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro and animal research shows that cannabidiol inhibits CYP3A4. In human studies and case reports, cannabidiol has been associated with an increase in plasma levels of the CYP3A4 substrates zonisamide, tacrolimus, everolimus, citalopram, midazolam, and methadone.

Here's the gist: your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear amlodipine out of your system. CBD can slow that enzyme down, so the amlodipine may hang around longer and build up in your blood. Amlodipine isn't a prodrug, so more drug just means a stronger version of what it already does.

In practice, that could mean your blood pressure drops a bit too much, leaving you feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or tired, or you may notice more ankle and leg swelling or flushing. This is a real, well-documented effect for CYP3A4 medicines, though amlodipine itself hasn't been singled out in the studies. Please don't change anything on your own. Just let your pharmacist or doctor know you're using CBD so they can watch your blood pressure.

What Is Amlodipine Used For?

Brand name: Norvasc

Amlodipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6–17 years. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Sdamlo (oral solution) is specifically indicated for hypertension in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older.

Amlodipine also treats coronary artery disease in adults, including chronic stable angina (chest pain with exertion), vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina, caused by coronary artery spasms), and documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or significantly reduced heart pumping function.
