Preliminary clinical research, case reports, and animal studies suggest that high dose cannabidiol has sedative and hypnotic effects. Theoretically, concomitant use of cannabidiol with drugs with sedative and anesthetic properties may cause additive therapeutic and adverse effects.

This combination medicine (Damason-P) contains hydrocodone, an opioid pain reliever that can make you drowsy and slow your breathing. CBD, especially at higher supplement doses, can also have a calming, sleepy effect of its own. Put the two together and those effects may stack up, so you could feel more sedated, foggy, dizzy, or lightheaded than you would expect from the painkiller alone.

To be fair, this is mostly a theoretical concern based on how these substances behave, not strong human studies. Still, it's worth respecting. Please don't start or stop anything on your own. Have a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor, especially before driving or if you ever notice unusually heavy drowsiness.

Theoretically, cannabidiol might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research shows that cannabidiol inhibits CYP2D6. Theoretically, concomitant use of cannabidiol with CYP2D6 substrates might increase the risk for adverse effects from these substrates. However, a clinical crossover trial in healthy adults shows that cannabidiol does not inhibit dextromethorphan, a substrate of CYP2D6.

Here's the piece worth knowing about this combo product: the hydrocodone part relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to turn into its more active pain-relieving form. CBD may block that enzyme a bit, at least in lab studies. In theory, slowing that conversion could mean you get less pain relief from the hydrocodone, not more. The aspirin and caffeine pieces aren't really affected here.

I want to be upfront: this is a theoretical concern based on test-tube data. In fact, a human study using another CYP2D6 medicine showed CBD didn't meaningfully interfere. So for most people this likely stays minor. Still, if you notice your pain isn't being controlled, or you feel extra groggy or drowsy, loop in your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

Cannabidiol may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
In vitro research shows that cannabidiol inhibits CYP1A2. Furthermore, clinical studies show that cannabidiol may inhibit the metabolism of caffeine, a CYP1A2 substrate. Two pharmacokinetic studies in healthy adults show that taking cannabidiol dosed 640 mg once up to 750 twice daily increases the area under the curve of caffeine. However, results are mixed over whether cannabidiol impacts peak serum levels of caffeine.

The piece of this combo pill that matters here is the caffeine. Your liver clears caffeine using an enzyme called CYP1A2, and CBD can slow that enzyme down. In good-quality studies, fairly high CBD doses raised the total caffeine exposure in the body. In plain terms, the caffeine may hang around longer than usual.

So if you take CBD along with this medicine, you might notice the typical too-much-caffeine feelings: jitteriness, a racing heart, trouble sleeping, or feeling on edge. This was mostly seen with concentrated CBD products, not tiny trace amounts. The aspirin and hydrocodone parts aren't the main concern with this particular interaction. Before mixing them, check with your pharmacist or doctor so they can look at your full medication list.

This combination pill (Damason-P) pairs aspirin and caffeine with hydrocodone, an opioid pain reliever. The part that matters here is the hydrocodone, which your liver processes partly through an enzyme called CYP3A4. CBD can slow that enzyme down, so hydrocodone may clear out of your body more slowly and build up a bit higher than expected.

In real terms, that could mean stronger opioid effects: extra drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, nausea, or slowed breathing if levels climb too high. This is a well-supported interaction, though hydrocodone itself wasn't the drug studied directly, so the exact size of the effect in one person is hard to predict. Please don't stop or change anything on your own. Just check in with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Caffeine is a substrate of CYP1A2, and cannabidiol has been shown to inhibit CYP1A2 metabolism. A pharmacokinetic study in healthy adults shows that taking oral cannabidiol, starting at 250 mg once daily and titrating to 750 twice daily over a total of 24 days, increases the peak serum level of caffeine by 15% and the overall exposure to caffeine by 95% after a single dose of caffeine 200 mg taken on day 23. Other clinical research also shows that cannabidiol modestly increases the area under the curve of caffeine but does not increase peak serum levels of caffeine.
