Cannabidiol is a substrate of CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, drugs that inhibit CYP3A4 enzymes might increase levels of cannabidiol, increasing its effects and adverse effects.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with lanreotide (Somatuline) and CBD: in this pairing, it's the CBD that may be affected, not your lanreotide. Lanreotide is a protein-based injection that your body handles in its own way, and it can mildly slow down a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Since CBD is broken down by that same enzyme, the theory is that lanreotide could let CBD build up a bit, nudging up CBD effects like drowsiness, diarrhea, or stomach upset.

I want to be honest that this is theoretical, based on how the two work on paper, not on real cases. Lanreotide is generally a weak CYP3A4 inhibitor, so any change is likely small. Still, since both can cause GI side effects, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

About Lanreotide Injection

What Is Lanreotide Injection Used For?

Brand name: Somatuline

Lanreotide Injection is used for the long-term treatment of acromegaly (a condition where the body produces too much growth hormone) in patients who have not responded adequately to surgery or radiation, or who cannot have those treatments. The goal is to bring growth hormone and IGF-1 levels back to normal.

It is also used to treat adults with unresectable, well- or moderately-differentiated, locally advanced or metastatic gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs) to help slow tumor progression, and to treat adults with carcinoid syndrome, where it reduces how often short-acting rescue medications are needed. If a patient is already receiving Lanreotide Injection for GEP-NETs, no additional dose is given for carcinoid syndrome.
