Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Levetiracetam
Levetiracetam falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Cannabidiol (cbd) interacts with.
Preliminary clinical research, case reports, and animal studies suggest that high dose cannabidiol has sedative and hypnotic effects. Theoretically, concomitant use of cannabidiol with drugs with sedative and anesthetic properties may cause additive therapeutic and adverse effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: both CBD and levetiracetam (Keppra) can make you feel sleepy or worn down on their own. Put them together and those drowsy effects may stack up. You might notice more tiredness, dizziness, trouble concentrating, or feeling foggy, which are already common with Keppra. This isn't about CBD changing how your seizure medicine is broken down or making it stronger in your bloodstream. It's just two things that calm the nervous system adding up.
One honest caveat: this is a theoretical concern based mostly on pharmacology and early reports, not strong human studies, so it may not affect you much. Still, since seizure control matters, please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding CBD, and go easy on activities like driving until you know how the combo hits you.

About Cannabidiol (cbd)
What is Cannabidiol (cbd)?
- Anxiety and stress
- Sleep problems
- Chronic pain
- Certain seizure disorders
- Inflammation
CBD is a compound from the cannabis (hemp) plant that does not cause a 'high.' It has strong evidence only for certain rare seizure disorders (as a prescription drug), while most other popular uses are still backed by limited or early research. Product quality varies a lot, so talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you take other medicines.
About Levetiracetam
What Is Levetiracetam Used For?
Brand names: Keppra, Elepsia XR, Spritam
Levetiracetam treats partial-onset seizures (seizures that start in one area of the brain). Many products also add it to other medicines for myoclonic seizures in juvenile myoclonic epilepsy and for primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures in idiopathic generalized epilepsy.
Approved ages and uses differ by product. Extended-release products (Keppra XR, Elepsia XR, Levetiracetam ER) are only for partial-onset seizures in ages 12 and older. The injection is used when swallowing medicine by mouth is temporarily not possible.
