Cannabigerol (cbg) and Ammonium Chloride

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS

Why this applies to Ammonium Chloride

Ammonium Chloride falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Cannabigerol (cbg) interacts with.

Theoretically, taking cannabigerol with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research shows that an intraperitoneal injection of cannabigerol lowers blood pressure. The mechanism of action may be related to alpha-2-adrenoreceptor activity. The effect of oral intake of cannabigerol is unclear and this has not been shown in humans.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's something worth clarifying. The interaction on file lumps Ammonium Chloride in with blood pressure medicines, but Ammonium Chloride isn't really used to lower blood pressure. It's typically given to make the urine or blood more acidic, or as an expectorant. So the classic concern, CBG plus a blood pressure drug adding up to make your pressure drop too low, doesn't map neatly onto this particular product.

On top of that, the blood-pressure-lowering signal for CBG comes only from animal studies using injections, not from people taking it by mouth. That makes this very theoretical. Honestly, I wouldn't expect a meaningful clash here, but since CBG quality and dosing are poorly studied, it's smart to run it past your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ammonium Chloride page

“Ammonium chloride, an old drug still used to acidify the urine and correct certain acid-base imbalances, sits in caution territory in my read of this page. Most of the interactions on file involve supplements that push blood pressure up or down or that compound the fluid and potassium shifts tied to its use, and a smaller set can chang…”

  • Sleep support
  • Focus and mood
  • Digestive discomfort

Cannabigerol (CBG) is a minor cannabinoid from the cannabis (hemp) plant that is marketed for anxiety, pain, and inflammation, but human research is very limited and most claims rest on laboratory and animal studies. It appears to be generally well tolerated in early reports, but its long-term safety, quality, and dosing are not well established. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before trying it, especially if you take other medicines or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
