Here's the gist with this pairing. Chloramphenicol can slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2C9, and that same enzyme is one of the workers that helps break down THC, the part of cannabis that makes you feel high. If chloramphenicol blocks that cleanup, THC may hang around longer and hit harder, so you could feel more drowsy, dizzy, foggy, anxious, or have a faster heartbeat than you expect.

I'll be honest: this is a theoretical concern based on how these two are processed, not something proven in real patients. Chloramphenicol is a serious hospital antibiotic, so if you use cannabis, just mention it to your doctor or pharmacist so they can keep an eye on you. Please don't start, stop, or change anything on your own.

What Is Chloramphenicol Injection Used For?

Brand names: Chloromycetin, Chloromycetin Ophthalmic, Chloromycetin Injection

Chloramphenicol Sodium Succinate Injection is used intravenously to treat serious infections caused by susceptible bacteria. It is active against organisms including Haemophilus influenzae, Salmonella species (including Salmonella typhi, the cause of typhoid fever), Rickettsia, and the lymphogranuloma-psittacosis group.

Because of its serious risks, this medication is reserved for infections where less dangerous antibiotics will not work. It must not be used for minor infections such as colds, flu, or sore throats, or to prevent infections.
