Calcium Carbonate falls under ANTACIDS — the group Cinchona interacts with.

Theoretically, taking cinchona might decrease the effectiveness of antacids. Theoretically, taking antacids might also increase the risk of adverse effects from cinchona.
Some research shows that taking cinchona lowers stomach acid pH. In addition, some research shows that taking antacids might increase urinary pH. Theoretically, this may increase the amount of quinidine, a constituent of cinchona, reabsorbed in the renal tubules and increase the risk of quinidine toxicity.

Here's the thing about pairing cinchona bark with calcium carbonate (the calcium in Tums, Os-Cal, and similar products). This one runs in two directions, but I want to stress up front that it's all theoretical, based on how these compounds behave rather than real patient reports.

First, cinchona may lower your stomach pH, which could blunt the antacid relief you're after, so heartburn and indigestion might not settle as well. Second, and more importantly, an antacid like calcium carbonate can nudge your urine toward less acidic, and that could cause your body to hold onto more of the quinidine in cinchona. Since quinidine can affect heart rhythm, that's the part worth respecting. Honestly, the bigger concern is cinchona itself, which is unpredictable. Please run this by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Calcium Carbonate Used For?

Most calcium carbonate products are used as an antacid — they quickly relieve heartburn, acid indigestion, sour stomach, and upset stomach. This covers a wide range of brands including Tums, Rolaids, CAREONE Extra Strength, Calcium Carbonate Chewable Antacid, exchange select Extra Strength Antacid, Extra Strength Smooth, and the Children's Antacid and Children's Stomach Relief Antacid liquids.

Some products go beyond antacid use. Ki No Sin (capsule) is used as a health supplement to aid body functions affected by diabetes and kidney disease, and to help maintain normal calcium levels. Na Mi Cal is a supplement intended to support healthy bone development and help prevent osteoporosis. TC Max oral solution is indicated for the relief of heartburn, acid indigestion, sour stomach, and upset stomach.
