Paroxetine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Cinchona interacts with.

Theoretically, taking cinchona might inhibit cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) and increase levels of drugs metabolized by this enzyme.
Quinidine, a constituent of cinchona, inhibits CYP2D6-mediated metabolism in humans.

Here's the gist for paroxetine (Paxil, Brisdelle). Your body clears paroxetine largely through a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Cinchona bark contains quinidine, which can block that enzyme. If it's blocked, paroxetine can clear more slowly and build up in your system, so you might feel its effects and side effects more strongly. Think along the lines of more nausea, drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, sweating, or trouble sleeping.

That said, this one is theoretical, based on how the chemistry should work rather than real patient reports, so don't panic. Cinchona itself can be risky on its own, so before pairing it with paroxetine, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Paroxetine Used For?

Brand names: Paxil CR, Paxil, Brisdelle

Paroxetine tablets, film-coated tablets, and oral suspensions are approved in adults for major depressive disorder (MDD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The extended-release tablet forms (Paxil CR, paroxetine HCL CR, and paroxetine extended-release tablets) are approved in adults for MDD, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

Brisdelle (paroxetine 7.5 mg capsule) and generic paroxetine capsules are approved specifically for moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms (hot flashes) associated with menopause — not for any psychiatric condition. Paroxetine tablets are not approved for use in children.
