Aripiprazole Lauroxil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Cinchona interacts with.

Theoretically, taking cinchona might inhibit cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) and increase levels of drugs metabolized by this enzyme.
Quinidine, a constituent of cinchona, inhibits CYP2D6-mediated metabolism in humans.

Here's the gist for the Aristada injection: your body relies heavily on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to clear aripiprazole out of your system. Cinchona bark contains quinidine, which is a well-known blocker of that same enzyme. So in theory, pairing the two could slow how fast you break the medication down and let it build up higher than intended.

If that happens, you might notice more of aripiprazole's usual effects, things like drowsiness, restlessness or an urge to keep moving, dizziness, or muscle stiffness. I'll be honest though, this concern is theoretical, based on how the chemistry works rather than reports in real people. Since your injection is long-acting and hard to adjust quickly, please run any cinchona use past your doctor or pharmacist first.

Here's the concern with pairing cinchona bark and your Aristada (aripiprazole lauroxil) injection. Cinchona contains quinine and quinidine, two compounds that can stretch out the heart's electrical reset time, something doctors call the QT interval. Aripiprazole carries a small QT-prolonging signal of its own, so stacking the two together could, in theory, add up and slightly raise the chance of an irregular heartbeat.

I want to be honest about how solid this is: it's a theoretical worry based on how these substances behave, not something proven in studies, so I don't want to scare you. Cinchona bark is also unpredictable and risky on its own. The safest move is to talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, rather than starting or stopping anything yourself.

Aripiprazole injection is used to treat schizophrenia and to provide maintenance treatment for bipolar I disorder in adults. Different injectable products carry these approvals.

Abilify Asimtufii is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults and as maintenance monotherapy for bipolar I disorder in adults. Aristada is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults, with Aristada Initio used specifically to help start Aristada therapy.
