Cinchona + Trimipramine
Trimipramine brand names: Surmontil, Trimip, Rhotrimine, Tripramine, Trimp.
Cinchona has a moderate interaction with Trimipramine. Theoretically, taking cinchona with other QT interval-prolonging drugs might cause an additive effect and increase the risk of ventricular arrhythmias.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
QT INTERVAL-PROLONGING DRUGS
Why this applies to Trimipramine
Trimipramine falls under QT INTERVAL-PROLONGING DRUGS — the group Cinchona interacts with.
Quinidine and quinine, which are constituents of cinchona, prolong the QT interval.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: trimipramine is a tricyclic antidepressant, and like others in its family it can stretch out part of your heart's electrical cycle (what we call the QT interval). Cinchona bark naturally contains quinine and quinidine, which can do the same thing. Put them together and the effects may stack up, which in theory raises the chance of an abnormal heart rhythm.
I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is a theoretical concern based on how these compounds behave, not something proven in big studies. Still, since cinchona is unstandardized and unpredictable, I'd play it safe. Watch for things like a racing or pounding heart, dizziness, or fainting, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.

- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Trimipramine page
“If you take trimipramine (Surmontil), a tricyclic antidepressant, read this list carefully. Nine of the 139 supplements and herbs on file are rated major, and most touch the heart: several, grapefruit among them, can stretch the QT interval, the heart's electrical reset time, and raise the risk of a dangerous rhythm.”

About Cinchona
What is Cinchona?
- Malaria (historical/traditional)
- Fever
- Leg cramps and restless legs
- Digestive upset and loss of appetite
- Bitter tonic
Cinchona bark is the natural source of quinine and has been used for centuries to treat malaria and fever, but the bark itself is not standardized and can be unpredictable and risky. Modern medicine uses purified, dose-controlled quinine instead, and the supplement form carries real dangers, including serious heart and blood problems. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy.
About Trimipramine
What Is Trimipramine Used For?
Brand names: Surmontil, Trimip, Rhotrimine, Tripramine, Trimp
Trimipramine capsules are indicated for the relief of symptoms of depression. Endogenous depression — depression that arises from within, rather than from an obvious outside cause — is more likely to respond to treatment than other types.
In clinical studies, trimipramine worked as well as imipramine in hospitalized patients with depression, and was comparable to amitriptyline in less severely depressed outpatients.

Trimipramine Is Linked to Lower Levels of 3 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Trimipramine as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Cinchona — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
