Here's the gist with Ingrezza (valbenazine) and cinchona bark. Your body relies on an enzyme called CYP2D6 to help break down one of valbenazine's active pieces. Cinchona contains quinidine, a known blocker of CYP2D6. So in theory, taking the two together could slow that breakdown and let valbenazine levels drift higher than expected.

More drug in your system can mean more of its side effects, things like sleepiness, fatigue, or in some cases changes in heart rhythm (a longer QT interval). I want to be honest though: this concern is theoretical, based on how the chemistry works rather than real-world reports. Still, cinchona supplements aren't dose-controlled and carry their own heart risks, so please run this by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Here's the concern with pairing cinchona bark and Ingrezza (valbenazine). Cinchona naturally contains quinine and quinidine, and both can stretch out a part of your heartbeat called the QT interval. Valbenazine can have this same mild effect on its own. When two things that nudge the QT interval are taken together, the effects can add up and slightly raise the risk of an irregular, sometimes dangerous heart rhythm.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is a theoretical concern based on how these compounds behave, not a flood of real-world reports. Still, since cinchona bark is unstandardized and unpredictable, I'd rather you check with your pharmacist or doctor first instead of combining them on your own. Please don't change your valbenazine without talking to them.

What Is Valbenazine Used For?

Brand name: Ingrezza

Valbenazine — sold as Ingrezza and INGREZZA Sprinkle — is approved for two conditions in adults. The first is tardive dyskinesia, a movement disorder that causes uncontrolled, repetitive facial or body movements, often brought on by long-term use of certain psychiatric medications. The second is chorea associated with Huntington's disease, which refers to the involuntary, dance-like jerking movements that are a hallmark of that condition.

Both Ingrezza and INGREZZA Sprinkle are approved for both of these uses.
