Here's the gist for phenoxybenzamine (Dibenzyline). This medicine works by blocking alpha receptors, which relaxes blood vessels and brings down the blood pressure spikes that come with pheochromocytoma. Coconut water, on its own, has been shown in some early research to nudge blood pressure down a little, likely from its potassium and fluid content. So in theory, pairing the two could add up and drop your blood pressure more than expected.

When that happens, you might notice dizziness, lightheadedness, a fast heartbeat, or feeling faint when you stand up, since phenoxybenzamine already tends to cause those. To be clear, this is a theoretical concern based on how things work, not a proven problem, and an occasional glass is unlikely to be a big deal. Still, if you drink coconut water regularly, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your numbers.

Phenoxybenzamine hydrochloride capsules are used to treat pheochromocytoma — a rare tumor of the adrenal gland that releases large bursts of stress hormones, causing dangerous spikes in blood pressure and heavy sweating. The capsules help keep those episodes under control.

If the heart rate becomes too fast during treatment, a doctor may also prescribe a beta-blocker alongside phenoxybenzamine.
