Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Ryzodeg combines two insulins (aspart for fast coverage and degludec for steady, all-day control) that both work to push your blood sugar down. The idea here is that corn silk may have its own mild blood sugar lowering effect. Stack that on top of your insulin and, in theory, your sugar could drop a little lower than expected, raising the chance of hypoglycemia. That can show up as shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, confusion, or feeling lightheaded.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is: it comes from diabetic mice, not people, so it's theoretical. If you'd like to try corn silk, that's a conversation worth having first. Keep checking your sugars closely and let your pharmacist or doctor know before adding it, so nobody changes your insulin without good reason.

About Corn Silk

What is Corn Silk?

Corn Silk
  • Urinary tract and bladder problems
  • Mild fluid retention (diuretic)
  • Kidney and prostate concerns
  • Bedwetting in children
  • Soothing urinary irritation

Corn silk is a traditional herbal remedy taken as a tea or extract, mostly for urinary and mild fluid-related complaints. High-quality human evidence for these uses is limited, so it should not replace proven treatments. It is generally considered low-risk for short-term use in healthy adults, but talk with your pharmacist or doctor before trying it.
