Here's the gist for your cough syrup: the dextromethorphan part is cleared from your body by a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Corydalis yanhusuo may gently block that enzyme, which in theory means dextromethorphan could hang around a little longer and build up. If that happens, you might feel more of its effects, like drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, or in larger amounts, feeling foggy or restless. The guaifenesin piece isn't really affected by this.

I want to be honest though, this is only a theoretical concern based on lab work, not solid human studies, so the real-world risk is likely small. Still, if you take both, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and watch for extra sleepiness, especially with regular use.

Here's the short version: your cough medicine has two ingredients. Guaifenesin (the mucus thinner) isn't really affected here. Dextromethorphan, the cough suppressant, is the one to watch. Part of how your body clears it relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and lab studies suggest compounds in Corydalis (including berberine) may gently slow that enzyme down.

This is theoretical, based on test-tube data, not real-world reports, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. But in theory, dextromethorphan could build up a bit, which might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, or a foggy, lightheaded feeling. If you take both, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor first, and skip the combo if you feel unusually sleepy or off.

Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. Preliminary clinical research shows that berberine can inhibit cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) activity and reduce the metabolism of dextromethorphan. Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo may also inhibit the metabolism of dextromethorphan.
