Here's the simple version. Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to clear out the dextromethorphan (the cough suppressant) in this Vicks product. Corydalis may slow that enzyme down a bit. If it does, dextromethorphan could build up more than usual and hang around longer, which can mean extra drowsiness, dizziness, or feeling foggy. At higher levels some people feel restless or off-balance.

I want to be honest about the evidence though: this is a theoretical concern based on lab studies, not real-world reports, so it may not amount to much for most folks. The phenylephrine part isn't really affected here. If you take both, just keep an eye out for more sleepiness, and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Here's the simple version: corydalis may gently slow down a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and your body uses that same enzyme to help break down the dextromethorphan in Vicks Formula 44D. If that breakdown slows, a bit more dextromethorphan could linger in your system. In real life that might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, or feeling foggy than usual. The phenylephrine part isn't really tied to this enzyme.

I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based on lab studies, not strong human evidence, so for occasional cold-medicine use it's likely minor. Still, if you take corydalis regularly or notice extra grogginess, check in with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. Preliminary clinical research shows that berberine can inhibit cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) activity and reduce the metabolism of dextromethorphan. Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo may also inhibit the metabolism of dextromethorphan.

Here's the gist with this combo. Your cough medicine, Vicks Formula 44D, contains dextromethorphan, which your body clears mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP2D6.
