Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might increase serum levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. In vitro research and preliminary clinical research show that berberine moderately inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might also inhibit CYP3A4.

Here's the gist for your mini-pill: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear out the progestin in Norgestrel. Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine, which can mildly slow that same enzyme down. In theory, that could let a bit more hormone build up in your bloodstream, which might bump up familiar progestin side effects like spotting between periods, breast tenderness, mood shifts, or nausea.

I want to keep this in perspective. This is a theoretical concern based mostly on lab work, not on real-world reports of problems, so it's far from a sure thing. Still, since reliable birth control matters, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Corydalis. Don't change how you take your pill on your own.

What Is Progestin-Only (norethindrone) Oral Contraceptives Used For?

Norethindrone progestin-only pills — sometimes called the "mini-pill" — are used solely to prevent pregnancy. They do not contain estrogen, which makes them an option for women who cannot or prefer not to use estrogen-containing contraceptives.

When taken perfectly (same time every day, no missed pills), fewer than 1 in 100 women will become pregnant in the first year. With typical use, that number rises to about 9 in 100 — mostly because of late or skipped pills. Consistency is everything with this method.
