ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Insulin (Bovine)
Insulin (Bovine) falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Damiana interacts with.
Animal research shows that taking damiana lowers blood glucose level.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: insulin already does the heavy lifting of lowering your blood sugar, and some animal studies hint that damiana may nudge blood sugar down a little too. Stack the two and, at least in theory, you could end up lower than you bargained for. That's why this is flagged as a possible low blood sugar concern.
Watch for the usual signs of a sugar drop with insulin, things like shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, confusion, or feeling lightheaded. To be fair, this warning rests on lab and animal data, not solid human studies, so it may not amount to much in real life. Still, if you'd like to try damiana, check in with your pharmacist or doctor first and keep an eye on your glucose readings.

About Damiana
What is Damiana?
- Low libido / aphrodisiac
- Anxiety and stress
- Mood and mild low energy
- Digestive upset
- Headache and general tonic
Damiana is a traditional herb most famous as an aphrodisiac and mild mood-lifter, but solid human evidence for any of its uses is very limited. It is generally well tolerated in the small amounts found in teas, but quality studies are lacking, so talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it—especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a health condition.
