Here's the gist: Tresiba (insulin degludec) is a long-acting insulin that lowers your blood sugar all on its own. Damiana, based mostly on animal studies, may also nudge blood sugar a little lower. Stack the two together and there's a theoretical chance your sugar could dip more than expected, which is what we call hypoglycemia.

Watch for the usual low-sugar signs: shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, confusion, or feeling lightheaded. To be clear, this concern comes from lab and animal data, not strong human studies, so for most people the everyday risk is small. Still, if you'd like to try damiana, check your blood sugar a bit more closely at first and have a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before starting. Don't change your insulin dose on your own.

What Is Insulin Degludec (rDNA Origin) Injection Used For?

Brand name: Tresiba

Insulin degludec (brand name Tresiba) is used to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults and children 1 year of age and older who have diabetes mellitus — including both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

It is not recommended for treating diabetic ketoacidosis (a dangerous complication of diabetes that requires a different type of treatment). In people with type 1 diabetes, insulin degludec must always be used together with a short-acting insulin.
