ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Repaglinide
Repaglinide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Damiana interacts with.
Animal research shows that taking damiana lowers blood glucose level.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep in mind with repaglinide: it already works by pushing your pancreas to release insulin, which lowers your blood sugar. Damiana has shown a blood-sugar-lowering effect of its own, but only in animal studies, so this is a theoretical concern rather than something proven in people.
The worry is simple addition. If damiana nudges your sugar down while repaglinide is also doing its job, you could be more prone to low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). That can show up as shakiness, sweating, dizziness, a fast heartbeat, or feeling confused or weak. The herb in tea amounts is unlikely to cause much trouble, but concentrated supplements are less predictable. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and keep an eye on your readings.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Repaglinide page
“Repaglinide (Prandin, GlucoNorm) is taken right before meals to drop blood sugar quickly, and that speed is exactly why this list deserves real respect. Nearly everything on it also acts on blood sugar, usually pushing it lower still and raising the odds of a hypoglycemic crash, though a handful, niacin among them, pull the other way a…”

About Damiana
What is Damiana?
- Low libido / aphrodisiac
- Anxiety and stress
- Mood and mild low energy
- Digestive upset
- Headache and general tonic
Damiana is a traditional herb most famous as an aphrodisiac and mild mood-lifter, but solid human evidence for any of its uses is very limited. It is generally well tolerated in the small amounts found in teas, but quality studies are lacking, so talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it—especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a health condition.

Natural Medicines records Repaglinide as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Damiana — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
