Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

First things first: Datura wrightii isn't a real supplement you should be taking at all. It's a poisonous plant, and even small amounts can cause dangerous heart racing, confusion, hallucinations, and trouble breathing. Kovanaze is a nasal spray that combines oxymetazoline (a decongestant) with tetracaine (a numbing anesthetic), used to numb your upper teeth for dental work.

The concern on file is that datura can depress breathing, and pairing it with an anesthetic like tetracaine might add to that effect, which in a worst case could be life-threatening. Honestly, this is based on weak, anecdotal evidence, but the real danger here is datura itself. Please don't use it, and tell your dentist or pharmacist about anything you're taking before a procedure.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride, Tetracaine Hydrochloride page

Of the 54 supplement ingredients on file, 44 act as stimulants, and five entries rate major, led by ephe…”
