The dendrobium constituent dendrobine is reported to have convulsant effects. Theoretically, combining dendrobium with pro-convulsant drugs might increase the risk of seizure. Some drugs that lower the seizure threshold include anesthetics (propofol, others), antiarrhythmics (mexiletine), antibiotics (amphotericin, penicillin, cephalosporins, imipenem), antidepressants (bupropion, others), antihistamines (cyproheptadine, others), immunosuppressants (cyclosporine), narcotics (fentanyl, others), stimulants (methylphenidate), theophylline, and others.

Here's the short version on pairing Dendrobium with Vadadustat (Vafseo). Vadadustat is used to treat anemia in people with chronic kidney disease. This isn't an interaction where one changes how the other is broken down. Instead, it's about a natural compound in Dendrobium called dendrobine, which in lab reports can act as a convulsant, meaning it may make seizures a bit more likely.

Because certain medicines can also lower the seizure threshold, the theory is that stacking them together could add up. I'll be honest with you: this is theoretical and based on pharmacology, not on real cases in people taking both. The risk is likely small for most folks, but if you have a seizure history, that's worth flagging. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
