Ranitidine Bismuth Citrate falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Diosmin interacts with.

Theoretically, diosmin might increase levels of drugs that are substrates of P-glycoprotein (P-gp).
Preliminary laboratory research suggests that diosmin inhibits P-gp. Additionally, pharmacokinetic research in healthy male subjects shows that taking diosmin (Venex) 500 mg daily for 10 days prior to oral administration of fexofenadine 120 mg increases blood levels of fexofenadine, a P-gp substrate, by approximately 49% and decreases the apparent oral clearance of fexofenadine by 41%. The time taken to reach maximum plasma concentration, the half-life, and the apparent renal clearance of fexofenadine are not affected. For this reason, it is speculated that diosmin inhibits P-gp in the intestine, but not in the kidney or liver.

Here's the gist for combining diosmin with ranitidine bismuth citrate (Tritec). Diosmin may block a gut transporter called P-glycoprotein, which helps shuttle certain drugs out of your system. Ranitidine is partly a P-gp substrate, so in theory diosmin could let a bit more of it get absorbed, nudging blood levels up.

What that might mean in real life is fairly mild. Ranitidine is a gentle acid reducer, and even at higher-than-usual levels its side effects (occasional headache, dizziness, or constipation) tend to be minor. Just as important: this concern comes only from lab and animal data, not human studies on ranitidine, so it's mostly theoretical. Still, it's worth a quick word with your pharmacist before pairing them.

What Is Ranitidine Used For?

Ranitidine is used to treat several acid-related stomach and esophageal conditions. These include active duodenal ulcers (ulcers in the small intestine) and benign gastric ulcers (stomach ulcers), GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease, or chronic acid reflux), erosive esophagitis (irritation and damage to the esophagus from acid), and pathological hypersecretory conditions — rare disorders where the stomach produces too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and systemic mastocytosis. It is also used as maintenance therapy to keep ulcers and esophagitis from coming back after healing.

Over-the-counter products Acid Reducer and Wal-Zan tablets are specifically labeled to relieve heartburn associated with acid indigestion and sour stomach, and to prevent heartburn brought on by certain foods or beverages.
