Garcinia + Vortioxetine
Vortioxetine brand names: Trintellix, Brintellix, Sehippy.
Garcinia has a moderate interaction with Vortioxetine. Theoretically, combining garcinia with other serotonergic drugs might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
SEROTONERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Vortioxetine
Vortioxetine falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Garcinia interacts with.
In one report, a patient experienced serotonin syndrome after taking garcinia extract (60% hydroxycitric acid) 1000 mg daily in combination with escitalopram 20 mg, which had been taken for a year. The patient was switched to sertraline 50 mg daily and again experienced serotonin syndrome.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the concern with pairing Garcinia and vortioxetine (Trintellix). Vortioxetine already raises serotonin levels in your brain, which is how it helps with depression. There's a theory that Garcinia may nudge serotonin a little higher too, and stacking the two could push serotonin too far.
That can show up as serotonin syndrome, with things like restlessness, shaking, sweating, a racing heart, muscle twitching, confusion, or fever. To be fair, this is mostly theoretical, based on a couple of case reports with similar antidepressants, not solid studies. The risk is likely low, but it's real enough that I'd loop in your doctor or pharmacist before adding Garcinia, rather than starting it on your own.

“Vortioxetine (Trintellix) is an antidepressant that works through serotonin, which makes this a list to treat with real care. Two of the 100 ingredients on file rate major: lithium, which can add to the serotonin effect and raise the risk of serotonin syndrome (a dangerous excess of serotonin), and activated charcoal, which can soak up…”

About Garcinia
What is Garcinia?
- Weight loss
- Appetite suppression
- Curbing sugar and carb cravings
- Supporting metabolism
- Traditional cooking and souring agent
Garcinia is a tropical fruit whose rind contains hydroxycitric acid (HCA), widely marketed for weight loss and appetite control. The scientific evidence is weak and mixed, with most studies showing only small or no meaningful weight effects, and rare reports of liver problems raise safety concerns. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before trying it, especially if you have liver issues, are pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
About Vortioxetine
What Is Vortioxetine Used For?
Brand names: Trintellix, Brintellix, Sehippy
Trintellix (vortioxetine) is FDA-approved to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults. MDD is more than ordinary sadness — it is a persistent low mood that interferes with daily life and requires medical treatment.
Trintellix is not approved for use in children or teenagers. If you or a family member are wondering about treatment for depression in someone under 18, talk with a healthcare provider about what options are studied and approved for that age group.

Vortioxetine Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Vortioxetine as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Garcinia — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
