Tebentafusp-tebn falls under QT INTERVAL-PROLONGING DRUGS — the group Grapefruit interacts with.

Grapefruit or grapefruit juice, especially if consumed in large amounts, can cause additive QT interval prolongation when taken with QT interval-prolonging drugs, potentially increasing the risk of ventricular arrhythmias.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that drinking 6 liters of grapefruit juice over 6 hours prolonged the QTc by a peak amount of 14 milliseconds (ms). This prolongation was similar to the QT prolongation caused by the drug moxifloxacin. In individuals with long QT syndrome, a smaller dose of grapefruit juice, 1.5 liters, resulted in a greater peak QTc prolongation of about 30 ms. The effect of smaller quantities of grapefruit juice on the QT interval is unclear.

Here's something a lot of people don't realize about grapefruit: in large amounts it can stretch out your heart's electrical reset time, which doctors call the QT interval. Tebentafusp (Kimmtrak) can also lengthen the QT interval on its own. Put the two together and the effect can add up, which in theory raises the risk of an abnormal heart rhythm. This isn't about grapefruit changing how the drug is broken down, it's the two having a similar effect on the heart.

The research showing this used very large amounts (think liters of juice), so an occasional half a grapefruit probably isn't a big deal for most folks. Still, since Kimmtrak is a serious cancer treatment, please check with your oncology team or pharmacist before making grapefruit a regular habit.

What Is Tebentafusp injection Used For?

Brand name: Kimmtrak

Kimmtrak (tebentafusp) is used to treat adults with unresectable or metastatic uveal melanoma — a type of melanoma that starts in the eye and cannot be removed by surgery or has spread to other parts of the body. It is only for patients who test positive for a specific genetic marker called HLA-A*02:01.

Before starting Kimmtrak, a blood test is required to confirm that you carry the HLA-A*02:01 marker. Only patients who test positive are candidates for this treatment.
