Tebentafusp-tebn falls under QT INTERVAL-PROLONGING DRUGS — the group Ephedra interacts with.

Theoretically, ephedra might have an additive effect with drugs that prolong the QT interval.
Even in healthy volunteers, EKG changes including prolonged QT interval and premature atrial contractions have been reported with ingestion of recommended doses of ephedra. Ephedra may have an additive effect with drugs that prolong the QT interval. This may increase the risk of ventricular arrhythmias.

Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..

Here's the concern with pairing these two. Tebentafusp (Kimmtrak), your eye-cancer treatment, can stretch out the heart's electrical recovery time on an EKG, something we call QT prolongation. Ephedra's stimulants (ephedrine) can do the same thing, even at normal doses. Stack them together and the effect can add up, which raises the chance of a dangerous irregular heartbeat.

I'll be honest, this is partly a theoretical, additive risk, but the stakes are high enough that I wouldn't gamble on it. On top of that, ephedra is banned in U.S. supplements for good reason. Please don't use any ephedra product while on Kimmtrak, and check with your oncology team or pharmacist before adding anything new.

Here's the concern with combining ephedra and Kimmtrak (tebentafusp). Tebentafusp can stress the liver as a known side effect, and it's often given alongside drugs that raise liver enzymes during treatment. Ephedra supplements have their own history of causing liver injury. Put the two together and you could, in theory, stack one liver stress on top of another, which might show up as fatigue, belly pain, nausea, dark urine, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.

I want to be honest: this is a theoretical concern based on how each one behaves, not proven cases of the two together. Still, ephedra is banned in U.S. supplements for good safety reasons. Please don't use it, and talk with your oncology team or pharmacist about safer options.

What Is Tebentafusp injection Used For?

Brand name: Kimmtrak

Kimmtrak (tebentafusp) is used to treat adults with unresectable or metastatic uveal melanoma — a type of melanoma that starts in the eye and cannot be removed by surgery or has spread to other parts of the body. It is only for patients who test positive for a specific genetic marker called HLA-A*02:01.

Before starting Kimmtrak, a blood test is required to confirm that you carry the HLA-A*02:01 marker. Only patients who test positive are candidates for this treatment.
