These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Hibiscus Sabdariffa interacts with whole categories of medication. Caffeine , Sodium Benzoate falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Hibiscus Sabdariffa in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Minor).
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Caffeine , Sodium Benzoate
Caffeine , Sodium Benzoate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Hibiscus Sabdariffa interacts with.
In vitro research shows that Hibiscus sabdariffa calyx extract inhibits CYP1A2. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the short version: the caffeine in this product gets cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. In lab dish studies, concentrated hibiscus extract seems to slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happened in your body, caffeine could hang around longer and feel a little stronger, meaning more jitteriness, a faster or pounding heartbeat, trouble sleeping, or feeling wired.
Now the reassuring part: this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube work, and it has never actually been reported in people. A cup of tart hibiscus tea is very unlikely to matter. If you're using a concentrated hibiscus supplement and notice extra caffeine buzz, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Caffeine , Sodium Benzoate also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that Hibiscus sabdariffa calyx extract inhibits CYP3A4. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with hibiscus tea and your caffeine and sodium benzoate. In lab dishes, hibiscus extract slowed down a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, which is one of the pathways that helps clear caffeine. If that happened in your body, caffeine could hang around a little longer, which in theory might nudge up the usual caffeine effects: feeling jittery, a faster heartbeat, trouble sleeping, or an upset stomach.
The important part is that this is only a theory from test-tube studies, and it has never actually been seen in people. A cup of hibiscus tea is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated hibiscus supplements are less predictable, so if you use those regularly, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Caffeine , Sodium Benzoate page
“Caffeine and sodium benzoate is itself a stimulant medication, so the supplements most likely to cause trouble are the ones doing the same job. Seven of the 208 ingredients on file rate major, several of them stimulant herbs such as ephedra that can pile extra blood pressure and heart strain onto a drug already revving the nervous system.”

Hibiscus sabdariffa is a tart, cranberry-flavored plant most often consumed as a tea, and its best-studied use is for mildly lowering blood pressure.
