Here's the simple version: Levemir (insulin detemir) already lowers your blood sugar, and some research suggests hibiscus may nudge blood sugar down a bit too. Stack the two together and, in theory, you could end up lower than you planned. This isn't a dangerous chemical clash, it's just two things pushing in the same direction.

If your sugar dips too low, you might feel shaky, sweaty, dizzy, irritable, or suddenly very hungry. The good news is that this concern is theoretical, based on how hibiscus behaves rather than strong human studies, and an occasional cup of tart hibiscus tea is unlikely to be a big deal. Concentrated supplements are where I'd be more careful. If you want to use hibiscus regularly, check your glucose more closely and run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Levemir (insulin detemir) is used to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults and children with type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes. It is a basal insulin, meaning it works around the clock to keep background blood sugar levels steady.

Levemir is not recommended for treating diabetic ketoacidosis (a dangerous buildup of acids in the blood that requires a different type of insulin).
