Acetaminophen, Hydrocodone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Higenamine interacts with.

Theoretically, higenamine might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research shows that higenamine inhibits CYP2D6 enzymes. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here is the wrinkle with the hydrocodone part of your Vicodin or Norco: it is actually a prodrug. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to convert hydrocodone into hydromorphone, which is what gives you a good chunk of the pain relief. Higenamine has been shown in lab dishes to block that same enzyme.

So in theory, higenamine could slow that conversion and leave you with less pain relief than expected, rather than more. I want to be honest though: this is only test-tube data and has never been confirmed in actual people, so the real-world effect may be small or none. The bigger reason I would pause is that higenamine itself can raise your heart rate and blood pressure. Please run this combo by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Theoretically, higenamine might increase the levels and clinical effects drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that higenamine inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes by 21%. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for your Norco (acetaminophen with hydrocodone). The hydrocodone part is handled in your body partly by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In a test-tube study, higenamine slowed that enzyme down a little (about 21%). If that happened in a real person, hydrocodone could hang around longer and feel stronger, which might mean extra drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, or slowed breathing.

But I want to keep this honest: this was only seen in lab dishes, never confirmed in people, so it's theoretical. I'd be more cautious about higenamine itself, since it can raise heart rate and blood pressure, on top of an opioid. Please run this combo by your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.
