Why this applies to Isradipine

Isradipine falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Hoodia interacts with.

Clinical research shows that hoodia can increase blood pressure. Theoretically, concomitant use of hoodia with antihypertensive drugs might decrease the effectiveness of the antihypertensive drugs and increase the risk of hypertension. Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), Amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

You're taking isradipine to bring your blood pressure down, since it relaxes your blood vessels so your heart doesn't have to work as hard. Here's the concern with hoodia: some research suggests it can actually nudge blood pressure up. If that happens while you're on isradipine, the two could work against each other, and your blood pressure might not stay as well controlled as you and your doctor want.

I want to be honest about how strong this is. The worry here is mostly theoretical, based on how hoodia behaves rather than studies of people taking both together, so it may not cause a real problem for you. Still, since hoodia hasn't been shown to help with weight loss anyway, I'd run it by your pharmacist or doctor first. If you do try it, keep an eye on your home blood pressure readings.
