Deflazacort falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Ipriflavone interacts with.

Concurrent use of ipriflavone and immunosuppressant drugs might have additive effects on inhibiting immune function. Some patients taking ipriflavone experience subclinical lymphocytopenia; avoid concurrent use. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), and other corticosteroids (glucocorticoids).

Here's the gist with these two together. Deflazacort is a corticosteroid that calms inflammation by dialing down your immune system. Ipriflavone, on its own, has been shown in some people to quietly lower white blood cell counts (something called lymphocytopenia, often without any symptoms you'd notice). When you stack the two, the worry is that they may push in the same direction and weaken your immune defenses a bit more than either would alone.

In practical terms, that could mean a slightly higher chance of catching infections or being slower to fight them off. This isn't a reason to panic, and food-level isoflavones aren't the concern here, concentrated ipriflavone supplements are. Because Deflazacort matters a lot for managing muscular dystrophy, please don't change anything on your own. Just loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding ipriflavone.

What Is Deflazacort Used For?

Brand name: Emflaza

Deflazacort treats Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a rare genetic muscle disease that causes progressive muscle weakness. It is available under several brand names, each with slightly different age approvals.

Emflaza and Jaythari (both tablets and oral suspension) are approved for patients 2 years of age and older. Deflazacort tablets, Deflazacort oral suspension, Kymbee (tablet and oral suspension), and Pyquvi (oral suspension) are approved for patients 5 years of age and older.
