Aminophylline, Amobarbital, Ephedrine falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Khat interacts with.

Cathinone, a constituent of khat, appears to have sympathomimetic effects and can increase blood pressure and heart rate. Theoretically, combining khat with other central nervous system (CNS) stimulant drugs might increase the risk of cardiovascular toxicity. Some CNS stimulants include nicotine, cocaine, sympathomimetic amines, and amphetamines.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with this combo. Your medication contains ephedrine, which is itself a stimulant that revs up the heart and tightens blood vessels, and aminophylline, which can also speed the heart and cause jitteriness. Khat's main active chemical, cathinone, works a lot like an amphetamine and pushes blood pressure and heart rate up too. Stacking two stimulants on top of each other can add up.

The realistic worry is feeling your heart pound or race, a spike in blood pressure, shakiness, headache, trouble sleeping, or anxiety. This concern is theoretical, based on how these compounds behave, not on hard studies. Also, khat is illegal in the U.S. and not safe to use. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing anything like this.
